Carver’s Family Orchard & Apple House

We visited Carver’s Orchard & Apple House Restaurant in Cosby, TN, during peak apple picking season in mid-September. Actually, we made two visits. The first was for dinner at the orchard’s restaurant which I’d highly recommend. The setting is pretty, with tables by large picture windows overlooking the hillside orchard. Waitresses at Carver’s serve fresh apple cider and apple fritters with every meal. The fritters reminded me of a sweet hush puppy. Yum. They also serve apple butter and fresh, hot rolls, plus great salads with homemade dressing. Meals include items like chicken and dumplings, fried chicken and pork chops. Fried apple pie with ice cream is the main dessert but they were out of it the night we were there. Probably OK since we were stuffed even after splitting meals.
We returned to the orchard a few days later to pick up apples to take home to Iowa. I watched as pie maker Ruby rolled out dough for the individual fried apples pies they sell over the counter and in the restaurant. Ruby makes about 450 pies a day or more and they often sell out. Of course we had to sample one.
We also purchased five pecks of Jonathan’s for baking (read more about me baking apples pies) and one peck of Delicious for eating, and a couple of jars of cider and apple butter. Here are a few photos to recap our visits:
