I am a middle-aged wife, mom and freelance writer who is itching to do something self-indulgent and fun, without worrying about what others think. But keep your red hat. I started a blog about country music. I have no musical talent, no background in the industry and I started with no contacts in Nashville. But engaged fan, I am! I go to as many country music shows as I can talk my husband, Dan, or friends into going with me. I listen to country radio first thing in the morning, in my car, and via a podcast while I’m walking in the park. I read Nashville-based websites, music blogs (I counted 42 in my Twitter feed) and artists’ social media posts until my eyes blur. I jam my iPhone’s music library full with country artists. Right now, I’m finding myself listening to Elise Davis, Sturgill Simpson, Young Mister (not country) Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell and Cody Jinks a bunch, and I’m very partial to that Keith Urban-Pitbull song.
I love writing and have spent many years doing that daily, first working for a PR firm in Chicago and now I do marketing communications consulting work. Plus I do a fair bit of freelancing for agricultural magazines. I have always loved that work. But I also wanted an avenue to write more about lifestyle topics. I love writing about country music and connecting with others who share my love for it. If you see me at a concert or festival, please say hi!
Once in awhile I veer off to other topics, including what’s happening in my small Iowa town or our nearby Quad Cities. I also enjoy covering topics of interest to families with kids with special needs, like mine. If you look closely, there’s usually a music element in there somewhere.
Thanks for visiting!
