I write about country music. Mostly.

Strawberries and old-timey music in Long Grove today

Too tired to write so pictures tell the story of Strawberry Fest today in Long Grove, IA.

DSC03410We also discovered the music of Frankie Joe & Kinfolk just outside of the fest activities at the Long Grove Tap’s street party.  This old-timey string band with a slightly irreverent bent was super entertaining, playing everything from Willie Nelson to The Clash, gospel to Johnny Cash, plus some originals featured on a CD made at the Rust Revival car show. This Quad Cities based band is made up of Frankie Joe Willderman (guitar, vocals & songwriter); Kevin Wulf (six string banjo) and David Bane (upright bass & vocals), plus today there was one more guy on washboard from somewhere in Illinois. I learned this all from Frankie’s wife Tammy.  You can immediately learn more about Frankie Joe & Kinfolk at the band’s Facebook page. It lists their next dates:

  • Bierstube (Moline, IL) – June 16
  • Kinfolk in the Campground, Illiniwek Forest Preserve (Hampton, IL) – August 12
  • Cà d’Zan (Cambridge, IL)  November 18
