Best farm meeting lunch ever

I’m veering off topic to talk about the yummy surprise I found at lunch today. I was in Charleston, MO, to attend a meeting hosted by Concept Ag, a company that does business with crop farmers. After the owner of the company Trey Curtis gave some updates on the business there were discussions from company agronomists on new soil health and fertility products and related agronomy topics.
It is routine for agriculture companies to serve a meal to thank customers for taking time away from their farms for a meeting. Nothing new there. As an agricultural writer, I’ve participated in hundreds of breakfast or lunch meetings over the years.
But today was hands-down the best food I’ve had at one of these things. Caterer Adam Glenn delivered a spread that was hearty enough to feed big appetites, with just the right balance of pleasing flavors, textures and ingredients to please any foodie. What a treat!
Adam’s menu included mixed greens with citrus vinaigrette, locally-grown rice, chicken and sausage etouffee and calico BBQ beans. But the star of the lunch was the beef brisket that Adam seasoned and then roasted for 16 hours. Scrumptious. For dessert, there was homemade berry crunch with vanilla ice cream.
The point of this post is not to make you hungry. It is to urge you to consider a stop at Adam’s restaurant – The Glenn – if you are ever traveling in Missouri near the intersection of I-55 and I-57, just below the southern tip of Illinois. The restaurant is located at 2460 MO-105 in Charleston, MO. At The Glenn, you’ll find “high-quality ingredients, made-from-scratch meals and a rustic atmosphere” according to the restaurant’s Facebook page. Sounds like my kind of place. Check out the page for more info and hours – they are not open on Mondays and Tuesdays.
