Layout by Instagram App Makes Storytelling Easy

My phone is crowded with apps, some I use frequently and others that just clutter my screen. One I have been using a lot lately is iHeart Radio where I can choose from 293 country stations (a lot even for me!) or 91 stations centered around specific country artists. There are also options for building your own stations and targeted streams like, “Caffeinated Country” with upbeat songs sure to get the day going.
But my favorite app right now is Layout from Instagram. If you use Instagram and have trouble choosing a single photo to represent your son’s last day of junior high or a trip to the Indy 500, this app is for you, too. I just discovered Layout a few weeks back but it was released for iOS by Instagram over a year ago.
Layout lets you group up to nine photos together in one single image, choosing various designs and effects like using a mirror image. That’s what I did in the picture below showing my husband and daughter on the way into a local restaurant.

Storytelling with multiple photos in one single post saves time for me and my followers. You can get the gist of my gardening forays, and the music I enjoyed while planting flowers, in one quick glance.
So how do you use Layout by Instagram? First, find the app in your app store and download it to your phone. Then, simply open the app and select the photos you want to use for the composite. It is super easy.
You can choose from a selection of designs or layouts and it is simple to change images or move them around after you choose your layout. Finally, you can add an effect; I like the option called Borders to give my photo a finished look…see the gardening composite directly below.
Probably I’ve just scratched the surface with tips for using Layout from Instagram but you can hopefully get the idea. I have no connection to the developer, I’m just a fan of the app. Download it from the Apple App Store or Google Play and have fun telling your stories.
